Bringing Quality Higher Education Home: Empowering Rural Communities Through Accessible Learning
History and Mission
There are a lot of drop out of school in rural communities Sambaia-Bendugu, Kumala and Alkalia are not an exception to this, and the main reason for this is the lack of access to higher educational institutions in those communities, most community members can not afford to train their children to college in bigger towns and cities because of the high cost of living, transportation and the effect of environmental pressure in those cities, some don’t even have relatives to stay with, those that have most time don’t take proper care for their relatives that moved in for education, some girls become pregnant in search of their living cost, some boys turned to bike riders, most returned home and forget about education and continue with other community activities.
In light of the above, the idea of the College of Education Art and Technology was born, the institution intended to solve the burning issues that are stopping people from rural communities from accessing quality higher education that meets the criteria and technical and vocational training for those who are not qualified to attend higher education.
Furthermore, there is no institution in the country that prioritises arts and culture, Nigeria for example, most of the universities train citizens in Theatre Art and Cinematography, which has boosted employment through movie production and also showcases their reach culture to the wider world through the movies they produced, movie production is the second job creation opportunity in Nigeria after agriculture, because of the discipline a lot of young stars in the country are now self-employed, Sierra Leone has long started movie production, we have produced a lot of movies that should have showcased our country’s rich culture which should have attracted a lot tourist, but those movies never crossed the boundaries of this country and even the natives are not appreciating the work.
The College of Education Arts and Technology, have designed a strong arts and cultural faculty to train moviemakers in Theatre Art and Cinematography, which will help produce quality movies that will cross borders, be appreciated by everyone and create employment for the majority of the population which will boost the country’s economy
The institution will play a more significant role in workforce development in the entire country. This includes providing academic and career training programs to prepare students for employment or transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
Empowering rural communities through accessible education in arts, technology, and vocational skills for a brighter, self-sufficient future.
